About Carlos

Carlos M. Piocos III is a literary and cultural scholar and Tagalog poet from the Philippines.

He is an associate professor at the Literature Department of De La Salle University – Manila. His main interests are critical theory, Southeast Asian literature and film, migration and diaspora studies, and cats.

He finished his PhD degree in Comparative Literature at The University of Hong Kong. He has an MA degree in Critical and Cultural Theory at Cardiff University and BA degree in Comparative Literature at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

He is presently working on a book manuscript based on his dissertation, which analyzes films and fiction of Filipina & Indonesian migrant women to examine how the emotions that surface from their narratives reflect and respond to political discourses on labor migration in Asia.

His prize-winning poetry book, Corpus, was published by University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, Inc. in 2010. His new poetry collection, Kung ang Siyudad ay Pag-ibig, is forthcoming from UP Press.
